Clothing babies for migration

When deciding on what to clothe my baby in, in preparation for migration, it occurred to me that, I would have to know where in the world my final destination was to before making my decision. I was also aware of the fact that many of the destinations that I had considered had dramatically different weather to what my baby was used to. We live in the United Kingdom so the weather in our country is pretty much the same all year. It does get a little cooler in winter but it isn’t that dramatic compared to other countries in the world.

Baby

I made the decision to migrate to Australia with my baby, and after going through all of the usual checks ie. Xrays, medicals etc to gain entry to the country, the next task in hand was deciding on what the take as regards to clothing for my baby. I knew that the weather was warm in Australia, and in certain months of the year I could expect sweltering heat.

Firstly, I felt that a good amount of summer baby clothes (Baby kleidung) was needed, so I packed shorts, t-shirts, skirts, pants, socks and sandals. I put a light summer jacket in for just in case the temperature dropped in the evening. I also made sure that I had essentials for the summer, such as a sun hat and a high factor sun cream. I put in sun glasses to protect baby’s eyes from the suns glare. I knew that we would be on the beach a lot when we reached Australia so I put in aqua nappies for when we were in the sea. I also put in a sun shade for the pram and a cushion (Kuschelkissen) to keep baby comfy.

I also was aware that Australia in certain months was susceptible to a fair amount of rain fall. So I put in water proof clothing ie. Coat, trousers and Wellingtons.

Before reaching my destination I was to be on a 48 hour slight, which included drop offs, at Alaska, Thailand and Russia, and we would be at each of these destinations for approximately six hours, while our flights changed.

We were told, that we would also get a chance to sight see at each destination. So I knew that I would have to pack in my hand luggage, other clothes for my stop offs in Alaska and Russia, as I knew that the temperatures and weather conditions in these countries were significantly different to that of Australia’s.

I put in my hand luggage; warm trousers, hats, gloves, coats, cosy toe socks, snow shoes, all of these items were lined with a thick fleece to prevent baby from chilling. I also took with me a sleepy bear, which is a bear that is full of small beans, which heat in the microwave to enable the teddy bear to act as a hot water bottle. For the pram I packed a rain cover to protect baby from the snow fall and a blanket for the pram.
