Project

Civic integration policy for new immigrants in the Netherlands valued from a liberal democratic perspective

Acronym / Project ID:14
Start date 01/03/1997
End date 05/03/2001 Completed
Description

How should one value   compulsory forms of civic integration policy for new immigrants in the Netherlands from a liberal democratic perspective? This sociological and philosophical study begins with a reconstruction of empirical and normative assumptions behind the Dutch civic integration policy (‘inburgeringsbeleid’). Next and departing from this reconstruction, various citizenship perspectives on integration of immigrants are elaborated and valued from a normative-ethical point of view. On the basis of the findings of the research some policy recommendations will be formulated.
