| Description |
Does the indigenous population react differentially
to different ethnic minority groups?
The reaction of the indigenous Dutch population to ethnic minorities
plays an important role among the factors affecting the integration
of the minorities in Dutch society. This reaction will, in turn,
be affected by the perceived characteristics of ethnic groups,
such as their culture, educational level, the duration of their
presence in Dutch society etc. It is plausible to assume that
the reaction of the indigenous society also affects the identity
definition, normative integration and social participation of
ethnic minorities. This part of the research will investigate
the reactions of the indigenous population towards Turks, Moroccans,
Surinamese and asylum-seekers/refugees and the effect of perceived
group characteristics on these reactions. Values and normative
preferences of the indigenous population will be assessed as well
to enable a comparison with the same measurements of values and
normative preferences among ethnic minorities in project 13.
